John’s a junior in college, but about all the young stud has learned how to do is play football, lift weights, and party with the guys. The whiskey burned that dull, familiar burn as it went down, and the beer was strong and cold.
“So how’re you liking your first day on the job?” Liam asked him after finishing a long gulp of his own.
John smiled. “It’s going well. Thanks for the drinks.”

John took another drink and coughed. “Is this a normal Monday thing for you guys?”
Chris slapped a friendly arm around his back and leaned in. “Being in the industry means partying with the industry, you know? I mean, it’s not all blow off of hooker’s asses, but a guy who can hold his own pulls water in our circles. That’s why we’ve got to know if you have what it takes.”
John nodded as sagely as he could manage. On an empty stomach, the liquor was starting to warm him up pretty fast. “I guess that makes sense.”
“Don’t worry. We were where you were just a few years ago. We’re gonna take good care of you. When you get out of here, you’re going to know what the fuck, you know?”
Chris ordered them another round of shots and the two guys had already finished their beers.
“Look, Johnny boy,” he said when he came back. “This is what you need to know. People think the markets are about numbers. If you’re some stats nerd then sure, you can do okay playing the numbers. But if you really want to do something and be somebody and make yourself some money, it’s about the people. It’s about the guys in the industry and knowing who to know and playing the game and having fun. You know what I mean?”
“Sure,” John said.
“But don’t you worry about it. That’s why we’re going to show you. All you have to do is pay attention and be willing to pay your dues, you know what I mean?”
John nodded looking down into his beer. He was getting that sudden surge of inebriation that comes from drinking too fast too suddenly.
“You’ve got to suck a dick or two, to be sure,” Chris was saying to Liam.
“Oh yeah. Gotta be able to work that dick. Gotta know what to do with it when it comes to you.”
“What do you say, John? You know how to suck a dick?”
John nodded, smiling a little giddily. He didn’t remember why he’d been turned off by this way of talking. It was kind of fun to be so vulgar with people he’d expected to be uptight and professional. “Sure, I mean that’s like everything, right? You have to kiss ass to get anywhere. You have to suck the coach’s dick to get playing time, teacher’s dick to get a grade.”
They laughed and slapped him on the back. “You looked like a guy who knows,” Liam yelled approvingly.
John grinned easily and put his arms around their shoulders. “Hey, you guys are being so nice. I didn’t know what to expect. I think this is going to be the best thing I ever did was coming to work with you guys.”
A hand was grabbing his ass, but with his arms around his two new friends he couldn’t really turn around to see whether it was a particularly hot girl, but he was having too much fun to get distracted anyways and he just went with it.
